Time
(From Time)
On the corner, looking for a place to eat
On the pavement, wearing gloves to warm his feet
He's a winner, knows how to belong
Thinks to his belly, 'Why can't you be strong?'
The only way I sleep at night's if somebody calls my name
Ain't that a shame
In the middle of another holiday
In the basement, hoping for someone to come his way
Anyway, I don't want to live long
20 years, I can barely hold on
But the day I fall, the way I fall, is something I just can't see
It's a mystery to me
Everyday, I try to find myself
But I hurt in the morning, I can't get nuthin done
Everyday, I try to make things right,
But every place I go, I always end up alone
And every step I take, I am a total unknown
I've come a long way for nothing and a long way from home
On the West side, waiting for a friend to meet
In the alley, far away from love and peace
He's a dreamer, wakes up in the night
A believer, but will he do what's right?
His life means more than just what people notice
He's just a man, but he's not a man at the same time
And it's almost time
It's almost time
It's almost time
